Welcome to
St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro
We give all glory and honour to Almighty God for the gift of St. James’ Anglican Church, located in the heart of Asokoro, Abuja. The vision for a worship community in this district was born during the time of His Grace, The Most Rev. Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye, DD, then Primate of the Church of Nigeria, and brought to life under the leadership of His Grace, The Most Rev. Peter J. Akinola, DD, then Bishop of the Diocese of Abuja. Their spiritual foresight laid the foundation for what would become a thriving centre of Anglican worship.
Worship at St. James began on 18 December 1988 in the living room of one of the founding members. The inaugural service was led by Rev. Yohana Sarki, a visiting priest who later became the Church’s first vicar. The project officially took off when the Diocese of Lagos donated ₦50,000 to initiate construction—starting with a vicarage. Architects from All Saints’ Church, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, were commissioned to design the master plan, and from those faithful beginnings, the church continues to grow in spirit and service.
